Nov 30, 2020· Lumwana Mine is an open-cut copper mine project in the North West province of Zambia, 220km west of the Copperbelt and 65km west of the town of Solwezi. It is reported to be Africa’s largest copper mine. The mine was officially inaugurated in April 2009 by Equinox Minerals.
The mine is 80% owned by First Quantum Minerals through its subsidiary Kansanshi Mining. The remaining 20% is held by a subsidiary of ZCCM Investment Holdings, a state-owned company in Zambia. The mine began production in April 2005. The mine produced 270,724t of copper and 167,395oz of gold in 2013.
