This instruction set will take you through steps to make a successful metal casting using a sand mold. This document is limited to the making of the sand mold itself. Additional instructions are required to pour the molten metal and extract the shape.
The sand casting process also called as sand mold casting. It is a common method for metal casting. Almost 70% of metal casting of product follow by sand casting process. The bonding agent (clay) is mixed with the sand. The mixture is moisturized with water for develop strength and plasticity of clay to make mold.
One of the techniques for making an aluminum mold is called sand casting. It involves mixing fine sand, some clay, and a small amount of water to make the mixture cohesive. This mixture is called green sand because it is moist, not because it is actually green. The green sand is tamped into a box with a hollow mold shape embedded into it.

The foundry worker makes sure the core sits correctly in the mold and is free from deficits. Any chaplets needed are placed on the cope, and when everything looks good, the cope is placed over the drag and clamped down. Cores create flexibility in sand casting. The ability to make and place sand cores is a vital part of the casting process.

Add water to bind ingredients together to obtain a wet mix.
Some clients were confused about the mould costs, or pattern costs. We will briefly introduce the mould pattern costs for cast iron sand castings, cast steel lost wax investment castings, and metal patterns for die castings. For China Foundries, the mould (pattern) cost is separated with the casting prices.
Sep 21, 2017· To make concrete bird baths using leaf molds and the sand casting technique, you’ll need a pile of clean sand deep enough to make a concave impression with the leaf. Put some sand into the container and press it flat. Set your molding shape into the container. Add some more sand around it, then tamp the sand to compress it.
Sand mold casting involves the following ten steps: 1. Initially, a prototype pattern in wood or metal is generated to accurately duplicate the structure and design of a metal part. The prototype typically includes an excess portion called a sprue gate to create a channel for the entry of molten metal in the final sand mold. 2. The pattern is ...
